Ron Weasley Almost Killed Off, Reveals J.K Rowling
JK Rowling has revealed she seriously considered killing off character Ron Weasley whilst midway through writing her Harry Potter novels. The ginger haired magician is played by actor Rupert Grint in the hugely successful movie franchise.
Speaking in an exclusive feature ahead of the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 DVD release, Rowling reveals she considered killing Weasley "out of sheer spite". The famed novelist brought headmaster Albus Dumbledore, Harry's owl Hedwig and Snape to sorry ends, but she decided against killing off one of the story's three main characters, despite speculation that Harry was to die in the final book. However, Rowling admits the thought crossed her mind, she is quoted by the UK's Guardian newspaper as saying, "Funnily enough, I planned from the start that none of them would die. Then midway through, which I think is a reflection of the fact that I wasn't in a very happy place, I started thinking I might polish one of them off. Out of sheer spite" As for which character she had ready for the chop, the author explained, "I did seriously consider killing Ron".
After bringing both the novels and movie adaptations to a close, Rowling admits she made the correct decision in keeping the three main characters together, saying, "It's a real relief to be able to talk about it all".
