Dame Vivienne Westwood Donates $1.6 Million To Eco Charity
Legendary fashion designer Dame Vivienne Westwood has pledged $1.6 million (£1 million) to tackle climate change and fund eco-friendly projects.
The style icon is an avid environmentalist and recently threw her support behind a campaign against the U.K. government's plans to sell off sections of Britain's public forests to private buyers.
Now she has accused politicians of not acting fast enough to combat global climate change, and is donating a large sum from her own business to kickstart green initiatives.
She tells The Times, "Governments... are so slow that we can't wait for them any more. We have to get this thing moving and hope that they'll join in. I took as much as I could afford from my company."
The cash will go to the Cool Earth charity, which aims to raise $11.2 million (£7 million) to stop logging in South American rainforests.
