Peter Hook Admires R.E.M. For Ending On Good Terms
Rocker Peter Hook wishes New Order could have split up in a similar way to R.E.M., insisting he's "not proud" of how his time with the band ended.
The bassist, who walked away from New Order in 2007, was left furious after hearing frontman Bernard Sumner, drummer Stephen Morris and keyboard player Gillian Gilbert were reteaming for the first time in five years for benefit gigs last month (Oct11).
He insisted his former bandmates were "d**kheads" and that they would be "haunted" by his missing presence.
However, Hook has now admitted he would have liked to have remained pals with the band after he left, and he praises the stars of R.E.M. for the way they disbanded with grace in September (11).
Hook tells the Jo Whiley Music Show, "It was quite interesting the way (R.E.M frontman) Michael Stipe said he was proud the way they had done it (split) and of their legacy, and if there is one thing I'm not proud of, it is the way New Order have done it.
"It's very, very sad actually. I suppose in a way it helps you understand the process people go through together when they are in a group. It's like a marriage. You are together for so long you literally do drive each other crazy."
