Phillip Seymour Hoffman thinks his work can ''speak for itself'', and believes Hollywood films to be like ''art''.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman believes his work "speaks for itself".
The 44-year-old star - who won an Oscar for his role in 'Capote' and critical acclaim in 'Charlie Wilson's War' and 'Doubt' - is currently taking a starring role in George Clooney's political drama 'Ides of March', and while he thinks a similar movie about backstabbing and behind the scenes wrangling could be made about Hollywood, he believes the backgrounds are quite different as movies are about "art".
He said: "Ultimately, you know who you are, I think. You can't hide. The work speaks for itself. Eventually you are going to see the film. You are going to see the work that person does, what that person produces, what that person directs and how you go about doing that, I guess, a story that could be told.
"Ultimately, it's about art and commerce. I think this story could be told in that business (Hollywood)."
Like George, Phillip has also tried his hand at directing with 2010 movie 'Jack Goes Boating', and despite what many may think he does not believe it is an ego trip for those in Hollywood.
He added to BANG Showbiz: "Well sometimes I think actors directing is about ego, and I don't think it is at all. I think sometimes you are an actor and you find out you like directing too. Sometimes actors give directing a try and they're no good at it. Most of the actors I know have no desire to direct. I think a lot of people assume actors want to direct, but it's not true."
