Sugarland Perform At Benefit Concert For Tragedy At Indiana State Fair
Sugarland delivered an emotional free concert in tribute of those injured in a deadly stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair last August. Sugarland singer Jennifer Nettles announced that the event had changed them all.
The Country music duo appeared at the benefit in Indianapolis last night (28 Oct 2011) with vocalist Jennifer Nettles and guitarist Kristian Bush speaking to the crowd. Nettles declared to the masses: "Obviously we are here in October - we were supposed to do this show in August. Obviously, the stage is different, you are different and we are different. We are all changed by what happened then. But we are going to try to give you the best show that we can and to celebrate healing with you and to celebrate life and music with you here tonight." Indiana-based musician COREY COX and actress Rita Wilson also performed. At the end of the concert, Nettles walked amongst the crowd holding up a flag, simply reading 'Heal'.
Seven people had been killed and dozens injured when the stage collapsed at the Indiana State fair on August 13th 2011 due to an approaching storm toppling down scaffolding just minutes before Sugarland were set to perform. Attendees at the benefit concert donated to the victim relief fund, which has already raised nearly $1 million.
The Grammy Award-winning duo have sold over 15 million records worldwide and are planning their fifth studio album, supposedly set for release in 2012.
