Deadly Crash Viewed By Millions Online
It now appears certain that many more people watched the 15-car pileup at the IndyCar Series race in Las Vegas on Sunday online than watched it on television. As of today, some YouTube had registered 3.7 million accesses to the ABC video of the crash at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway that took the life of British racecar driver Dan Wheldon. Millions more watched it on the ABC and ESPN websites, Flickr, Indycar.com, and on various news sites on the Internet, making it one of the most viewed -- if not the most viewed -- incidents in sports ever posted on the Internet. The actual telecast did not show the collision that started the massive pileup -- it was showing an in-car view -- but the director quickly switched to a sky view of the track that revealed car after car skidding and burning. Moments later, a video recording of the entire incident was played.
