Mccready's Ex: 'I Don't Want Her Jailed Over Custody Drama'
Country star Mindy Mccready's ex-boyfriend has spoken out after the singer failed to return their son earlier this week (begs28Nov11), insisting he doesn't want his child's mother put behind bars over the drama.
Bill MCKnight filed a missing persons report on Tuesday (29Nov11) after MCCready, who is now pregnant with twins, did not bring their child Zander back to his Florida home. She is currently in Tennessee with the child despite a Florida judge warning she faces prison if he is not returned to his father's care.
MCKnight has revealed he tried to keep their relationship "civil" by allowing the singer to have Zander an extra weekend after she asked for more time, but admits the deal backfired.
In an interview with the New York Daily News, he says, "She called me and said 'Listen I'm going back to Nashville because I'm pregnant with these twins, and I won't see Zander for a while, so can I please have another weekend?'
"I gave up my weekend to be cool, and it backfired on me. The judge gave her 90 days to complete her case plan and prove she's responsible enough to raise a child. She needed some drug screening, parenting courses and to be a part of the solution. But she took (the) biggest risk of all and left the state.
"I mean, she's pregnant. I'd hate to see her in jail. We're trying to be civil. But I don't like what she's done. He's only five and used to a regular system down here. He's in pre-school and missing his school.
"Tennessee is too far. I'm his father. I've been here in his life since day one. I'm very attached to my son and vice versa. I've done everything the court asked me to do, and I should have my rights to raise my own child."
