Kobe Bryant - Grauman's Forecourt Filling Up Quickly
The forecourt of the Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood, which has become a mecca for tourists who come to see the hand and footprints of legendary Hollywood stars, has been the scene of 11 cement ceremonies in the past year, the most in history, according to the Los Angeles Times .
Among them two celebrities who never starred in a movie, basketball superstar Kobe Bryant and French disc jockey David Guetta. There have also been ceremonies featuring Alvin and the Chipmunks and the Smurfs. In addition the stars of the Twilight movies, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart.
"The influx," the Times observed, "has raised concern among some film buffs, who believe that Lautner's cinematic oeuvre doesn't exactly compare to, say, John Barrymore's or Jack Nicholson's." Plus, space is running out. Veteran film critic Richard Schickel noted that in the past the Grauman's ceremonies usually were limited to "for-the-ages stars," but that it is now "driven entirely by what is hot at this moment, publicity and money."
