Sherlock Holmes Movie Has Indie Influences, Admits Guy Ritchie
The SHERLOCK HOLMES movies still have indie sensibilities, according to director Guy Ritchie. The latest SHERLOCK HOLMES movie, 'A Game of Shadows' has been released this weekend (16 Dec 2011).
Guy Ritchie, who is more famed for small-budget movies such as 'Lock Stock' and 'Snatch' has suggested that he doesn't feel concerned about doing big blockbuster films such as SHERLOCK HOLMES: 'Filmmaking has changed as we all know, indie movies are being muscled out in quite a conspicuous fashion and who's responsible for that and why that is the case, I'm not sure. At the same time I still see myself as an indie filmmaker.' Ritchie further elaborated: 'I certainly got no resistance from the studio in terms of trying anything that we thought was innovative. They really encouraged it. Filmmaking at blockbuster level, they've absorbed an indie influence. That's the upside of where we have found ourselves. Big movies are becoming increasingly more interesting. It's an interesting time in film history. I do feel, as I say, these big movies can be very interesting. I don't feel constrained at all.'
'SHERLOCK HOLMES: A Game of Shadows' has already received a variety of mixed reviews with the Daily Mail describing it as 'terrific fun' but The Scotsman suggesting that it is 'frustratingly incoherent and overly busy'. There have already been rumours circulating about a third SHERLOCK HOLMES movie in the franchise that could be potentially in the pipeline.
