Twilight Breaking Dawn Tops Slow Box Office Weekend
'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1' has claimed the number one spot at the US box office for the third week running on the second-slowest film-going weekend of the year.
'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1' has claimed the number one spot at the US box office for the third consecutive week.
The movie - which stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner - pulled in $16.9 million to beat 'The Muppets' on the second-slowest film-going weekend of the year managing to make $82 million in receipts, according to data compiled by Hollywood.com.
But the latest 'Twilight' motion picture has hit lower viewing figures than the third movie in the franchise, 2009's 'The Twilight Saga: New Moon', which managed $255.4 million during the same 17-day period on the big screen.
Richie Fay, chief of distribution at Summit Entertainment, thinks the decrease is due to some fans of the motion picture series growing "a little bit older".
He said: "I think our audience has grown a little bit older, and therefore their interests have changed - they may be shopping or doing other things they weren't a year and a half ago."
