Gary Barlow: 'Success Is Like A Drug'
British pop star Gary Barlow fears he will always be obsessed with success, calling his desire for the spotlight "a little drug".
The Take That singer admits he is motivated by his ambition, a quality he also sees in his musical hero Sir Elton John.
He tells Britain's Esquire magazine, "I don't think (the desire to succeed will) ever go away now. It's not, 'Let's go one last time'. There is no 'one last time'. I recognise in me what I see in Elton and all those people.
"We're chasing that buzz. It's a little drug. And I think once you've tasted it, especially once you've tasted it a number of times, you never want to lose it. It'll annoy my wife for years, that, but there you go... There's one thing I know about fame - it doesn't last forever."
The singer also reveals he enjoys stardom because it allows him to provide for his wife Dawn and their three kids.
He adds, "I like earning money. And it's not a case of watching it stack up, it's a primal thing with me - I'm the man in the house, and I like going out and earning the money. It doesn't mean anything - it's just a few numbers - but you look at the bank statement and think, 'Good, we're doing alright.' It's weird. I've not really got a handle on money - what it does and what to do with it - but the feeling of earning it, I like."
