Mark Wahlberg: I Could Have Saved America From 9/11
With what? A pair of aviators and a handful of “bro” puns?
In an interview with Men’s Journal, Mark Wahlberg claims he could’ve fought off the multiple 9/11 hijackers and saved Flight 93. I hope he doesn’t think 9/11 is a movie that happened.
"If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn't have went down like it did,” Mark told the magazine. “There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, 'OK, we're going to land somewhere safely, don't worry.'"
And then I would’ve asked for another take, just for safety. You never know what the editors can use in post.
Because he basically called all the people who desperately tried to fight for their lives on that flight ‘weak pansies’, he ended up offending a widow of one of the victims.
Deena Burnett-Bailey lost her husband, Thomas Burnett, on Flight 93. Burnett called his wife, saying “I know we’re going to die. There’s three of us who are going to do something about it.”
Burnett-Bailey told TMZ: “Does Mark Wahlberg have a pilot’s license? Then I think hindsight is 20/20 and it’s insignificant to say what you would have done if you weren’t there.”
She continued: “The plan for Flight 93 was foiled by heroes. For him to speculate that his presence on board could have stopped everything is silly and disrespectful. Sounds like someone is grandstanding."
Mark Wahlberg? Grandstanding? Get out.
I’m guessing that Mark Wahlberg now wants to get himself added to the poster for Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.
Picture this: I’m wearing a pair of Ray Bans and holding an American flag while the kid with the beanie is asking me for an autograph…
UPDATE: Mark has apologized for his comments regarding 9/11 after being deemed insensitive saying, "To suggest I would have done anything differently than the passengers on that plane was irresponsible. I deeply apologize to the families of the victims that my answer came off as insensitive. It was certainly not my intention."
