Rihanna Moves to London, Has Curious Taste in Hats
Pop superstar Rihanna won't have to worry about running into ex-boyfriend Chris Brown anymore this summer, as she's packing up her rhinestone-studded fanny packs and leaving for London. Justin Bieber sold out his entire North American Believe tour in an hour because 13-year-old girls are quick. Nicki Minaj canceled an appearance because a radio DJ pointed out her latest single isn't "real hip-hop," and Paris Hilton's new album will feature guest verses by Flo Rida and everyone's go-to guy, Snoop Dogg. Here's the music news.
• It's unclear how she'll manage to pack her bags with those day-glo talons of hers, but Rihanna is up and moving to London for the summer. The singer announced her trip via Twitter on Saturday, declining to reveal any reasons other than "life."
It's rumored the singer will be filming episodes of an upcoming fashion reality television program with designer Henry Holland and UK pop sensation Nicola Roberts. We'll definitely tune in, if only to see how many bling-encrusted baseball caps and teddy bear sweater dresses are featured in her wardrobe.
Perhaps Rihanna's just looking for an excuse to get as far away as possible from her ex Chris Brown, who recently dissed her via song. The two crossed paths as recently as Sunday, when they were both spotted at Greystone Manor Supperclub, but it's not clear whether they interacted.
Justin Bieber Showcase In Milan
• Tweens got some mad buying power: Justin Bieber reportedly sold out his upcoming North American tour in under an hour.
The Canadian pop juggernaut's manager Scooter Braun tweeted the impressive news on Saturday, writing, "What!?! Just found out @justinbieber sold out the entire #BelieveTour North America in 1 Hour and both MSG shows clean in 30 seconds!!!!"
Looks like Biebs can afford another custom chrome automobile. Maybe he'll splurge on a helicopter this time around, although he'll have trouble installing his own recording studio in one of those.
• High schooler Leon Purvis failed to draw Justin Bieber to his prom this past weekend, but he made do with a hunky alternative: a cardboard cutout. Purvis managed to score a spot on the prom court with this stunt.
Purvis told us, "I think Justin Bieber would make a good wingman because well he atrracts all of the ladies."
Smart kid. Except do you really want the ladies when they're screaming and crying all the time?
• Lil Wayne is feeling mighty tender lately. First he got upset with the Oklahoma City Thunder for not admitting him to a playoff game against the San Antonio Spurs—nevermind that he didn't actually have a ticket. Now he's taking any criticism of his Young Money artists way too seriously.
Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj was scheduled to perform at Hot 97's Summer Jam festival in East Rutherford, New Jersey, last weekend, but she pulled out after a Hot 97 radio personality rightfully pointed out that her single "Starships" isn't hip-hop.
Rosenberg told the crowd, "I know there are some chicks in here waiting to sing along with 'Starships' later. I'm not talking to y'all right now. F**k that bulls**t. F**k that bulls**t. I'm here to talk about real hip-hop s**t."
Shortly thereafter, Lil Wayne tweeted, "Young Money ain't doing summer jam."
Minaj, who is awesome with delusions of grandeur, tweeted, "Wow. U ni**az just fucked up history. But the President has spoken. #YMCMB." She later added, "I go above and beyond for my fans. But won't ever go against wayne's word. What he says, goes."
• Paris Hilton is pulling out all the stops for her upcoming sophomore album. She's just revealed that both Flo Rida and Snoop Dogg will lend their flows to her collection of auto-tuned baby voice coos.
Hilton recently told MTV that she's been working oh-so-hard: "My new single is going to be out in the next few weeks. I've just been traveling the world going to music festivals, researching all the music."
This is what research looks like for Paris:
Paris Hilton at Coachella
Paris Hilton raves it up with a variety of wands, glow sticks and a lollipop as she watches boyfriend DJ Afrojack perform at the Coachella music festival in Indio. • The xx plan to release Coexist, the long-awaited follow up to their eponymous 2009 debut, on September 11. Expect some languid sensuality.
• WATERS' stop-motion music video for "Mickey Mantle" is as as tender and lovely as the song itself, and it was written, shot, and edited inside 48 hours.
