Steve Jones: 'Lydon Was Right To Boycott Sex Pistols' Hall Of Fame Induction Gala'
Rocker Steve Jones is convinced his Sex Pistols bandmate Johnny Rotten made the right choice to boycott the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in 2006 - even though he wasn't sure it was the correct decision at the time.
Guitarist Jones admits he was willing to attend the tribute but when Rotten, aka John Lydon, announced he would not be a part of the celebration in a strongly-worded letter to Hall of Fame bosses, the bandmates chose to join their leader and stay away.
And, in hindsight, Jones is sure Lydon made the right decision.
He says, "(Glen) Matlock wanted to go... I didn't really think about it. Whatever. Then John said, 'No, we're not going to do it. It's ridiculous'.
"He came up with the letter. Then, when I actually sat back and thought about it for a while, and realised how lame it (Hall of Fame) is, I was a hundred per cent behind John. Not going was totally the right decision to make.
"Each year it (induction ceremony) gets lamer and lamer. A bunch of old f**ks kissing each other's a**, stroking each other. It's got nothing to do with rock 'n' roll whatsoever."
The class of 2012 includes the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Beastie Boys and Guns N' Roses.
