Melanie Amaro Signs To Epic Records

MELANIE AMARO, the winner of the US X-Factor, has signed to Epic Records, the label announced this week. After winning the crown in December (2011), MELANIE AMARO is now in a joint venture of a $5-million recording contract with Sony and Simon Cowell.

Even though she was mentored by Simon Cowell, the 19-year-old's debut will be overseen by other judge ANTONIO "L.A." REID when she goes to Epic. This is due to Reid having been appointed chairman and chief executive of the label in July after leaving the role of chairman on Island Def Jam Records. In a statement, Cowell said: 'We all agreed that Epic would be the right fit for Melanie. L.A. made it clear that he wanted the opportunity to work with her, and with his track record, you can't say no to that.' The contract consists of a guaranteed $5 million which will be paid to the winner over five years and Cowell's team will also offer Amero separate financial support so that she wouldn't have to be forced in investing her own money into her debut album. Talking to Pop & Hiss, Cowell said: 'The recording costs, marketing costs [that go into the winner's album] is all separate'.

MELANIE AMERO will also star in a Pepsi advert which will air during next month's Super Bowl, as another piece of her prize for winning.
