Shayne Ward Slams X Factor Image Obsession

Former 'X Factor' winner Shayne Ward believes the show needs to get back to basics and look for a talented vocalist, rather than being so focused on image.

Shayne Ward thinks 'The X Factor' is too focused on image and needs to get back to looking for a talented singer.

While the pop star - who won the ITV1 show in 2005 - is a fan of current contestants Marcus Collins and The Risk, he thinks there is not enough focus on the contestants' voices anymore.

He said: "Being on 'The X Factor' was amazing for me but it has changed hugely since my day. It's changed from being about the voice which I think it needs to get back to.

"I like The Risk they're really good, I love Marcus too. My only advice for the contestants would be, believe in your talent but don't believe the hype."

Although he may not be pleased with the direction the show is taking, Shayne - who is currently starring in musical 'Rock of Ages' - is impressed with the new look judging line-up, which has seen original panellist Louis Walsh joined by Gary Barlow, Tulisa Contostavlos and Kelly Rowland.

Speaking on ITV1's 'This Morning, he said: "The great thing is that all the judges have been there and done that, I like to see a bit of an argument between the judges.

"It's great to have someone like Gary Barlow who was part of the biggest boyband of the 90s and still is huge. I'd prefer to hear advice from someone who's been through it all."
