World’s oldest working model?

World’s oldest working model?
World’s oldest working model? Carmen Dell'Orefice still has it, You would probably think that models can only survive within the fashion industry until they reach a certain age and that the younger models will take over the jobs. But model and style icon, Carmen Dell’Orefice, has proved the opposite. Carmen, also called “the world’s oldest working model“, celebrated her 80th birthday last Friday.
Carmen Dell'Orefice is 80 She signed her first modeling contract at age 15 with Vogue and the same year she appeared on the cover of Vogue October 1947, as one of the youngest models ever. Carmen Dell’Orefice has worked with some of the most famous fashion photographers through the years like Irving Penn, Richard Avedon, Cecil Beaton and Norman Parkinson. Dell'Orefice lost life savings to Bernie Madoff,

At the age of 80, “the world’s oldest working model“, seems like she has no plans of stopping her modeling career. She continues to walk down the runway for designers like Hermès, John Galliano and earlier this year we saw her in a show of Alberta Ferretti in her signature white hair.

Who doesn’t wish they looked like her when they’re 80?

24-carat gold toilet + $5.8 million

24-carat gold toilet + $5.8 million
24-carat gold toilet + $5.8 million, The man with the 24-carat solid gold toilet has died suddenly in Hong Kong. Lam Sai-wing, the owner of the $5.8 million solid gold toilet, built it in honor of his childhood hero Vladimir Lenin, who once said that gold “should be used to make toilets after the victory of socialism to remind people of capitalist waste.”
The self made millionaire made his fortune in jewelery (heading the Hang Fung Gold Technology Group) but it was his golden lavatory that attracted thousands of people to his showroom and made him the synonymous with lavish loos. Inside the restroom you can also view the toilet and a gold toilet bush holder but you can’t use it.

The toilet known as the Hall of Gold has been recognized by the Guinness Book of Records. In 2008 rumors circulated that the toilet would be melted down if the gold price reached $1,000 an ounce. Sai-wing assured the public that the toilet would remain in tact but he couldn’t vouch for the toilet brush holder ! So far there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his sudden death. Lam Sai-wing was 53.

Robert Nay + Bubble Ball

Robert Nay + Bubble Ball
Robert Nay + Bubble Ball, Bubble Ball's Robert Nay: How a 14-Year-Old Built the No. 1 iPhone Game. Robert Nay, the creator of Bubble Ball, recently dethroned Angry Birds as the top free game in Apple's App Store. Most 14-year-olds are watching TV, thinking about the school dance and spending way too much time on Facebook. Eighth-grader Robert Nay, meanwhile, used his spare time to build a No. 1 iPhone app.
Nay's Bubble Ball, an addictive multi-level physics game, managed to unperch the mega-popular Angry Birds from the number-one spot on the free games list in mid-January. The deceptively simple game gets increasingly more challenging as players move objects around and manipulate the laws of physics to get a ball through an obstacle course to the finish line.

Offering Bubble Ball as a free game turned out to be a smart marketing move -- to the tune of 6 million downloads. That sets the stage should Nay decide to charge for his next creation. He has already issued an update for the game with new levels and an improved look on the larger iPad screen. If the success of his first game is any indication, Nay has a bright future in game development.

Where did you get the idea for Bubble Ball?

I had played games that had some similar ideas, but I mostly came up with it myself.

Did you have business startup costs associated with building your first app and launching Nay Games?

The Apple Developer license [which allows you to publish your games to the App Store], the Android Market license [for publishing to the Android Market], and the license for Corona SDK, which is what I used to make Bubble Ball. There were also fees to create the business. We already had a Mac computer and iPod touch.

Why did you decide to start Nay Games rather than be a single person app publisher?

If I started a business, I could expand later, possibly with more people and games.

Why did you choose to develop for the Apple iOS platform?

I like their devices and have an iPod Touch.

You've been getting a lot of media coverage. Did you initially do anything special to promote Bubble Ball?

Not really. Just telling friends and family and such.

How does it feel to topple the popular app Angry Birds out of the No. 1 spot?

I think it's pretty awesome. I never imagined my game could be the number-one top free game.

Have you faced any challenges as a young entrepreneur?

Probably just getting it started, and getting brand recognition, which all this publicity has really helped us with.

What are your future plans for Nay Games?

To make more games and possibly write an eBook about iPhone game development.

Is being a gaming entrepreneur what you want to do after finishing school or do you have other ambitions?

Possibly. I want to do something with computers for my career, like Web development or computer programming. But being a gaming entrepreneur is definitely a viable option.

What advice do you have for other app developers?

Shoot for the stars. Put your mind to it and, most importantly, have fun.

Do you have any tips for getting through Bubble Ball Level 12?

Put the triangle under the ball, then you have to place a gravity up piece, then a gravity down piece. If you can't figure it out, check out the solution.

Senator wants syrup protection law

Senator wants syrup protection law
Senator wants syrup protection law, Vermont Sen. Leahy to seek maple protection law. Vermont Sen. Patrick Leahy says he's planning to introduce legislation to make it a federal crime for people to mislabel products as containing maple syrup.

Leahy said Tuesday the legislation is needed to protect Vermont's maple crop from fraud.

The move came in the aftermath of a recent U.S. Food and Drug Administration investigation that found a man who had been selling fake Vermont "maple" syrup, when the product contained no syrup.Leahy's proposal would create a new federal felony offense and increase the sentences that prosecutors can seek for people who defraud consumers and farmers by intentionally mislabeling maple products. vermont fake syrup felony, patrick leahy, man selling fake maple syrup, +vermont maple syrup 1,140,000 gallons, Canada makes 80 percent maple syrup,

'Superhero' arrested for alleged assault

'Superhero' arrested for alleged assault
'Superhero' arrested for alleged assault, Seattle's masked superhero crime fighter "Phoenix Jones" is now fighting an assault charge for allegedly spraying pepper spray on people who he claims were fighting. Seattle police claim the people were dancing.

Phoenix Jones, who has been unmasked by police as Benjamin Francis, was arrested about 2:30 a.m. Sunday while still wearing his black and gold superhero costume, a bullet-proof vest and carrying two cans of pepper spray. Jones is a member of Rain City Superhero Movement, a group of self-proclaimed superheroes who say they patrol the streets to fight crime. phoenix jones arrested assault,

phoenix jones pepper sprayed. He was charged with assaulting two people who police said were "dancing and having a good time" as they walked to their car. phoenix jones facebook,

"In this particular case, he perceived that this group was fighting and when we contacted them, they said they weren't fighting," said Det. Mark Jamieson, a Seattle Police Department public information officer. "Unfortunately, he used force. He committed a crime, an assault against these individuals. That's against the law."

Rain City Superhero movement. The police report by Officer Hosea Crumpton said cited a woman who was sprayed saying the four victims "began dancing and frolicking with each other. Suddenly she observed a person ... running full sprint towards her group."

The person sprayed all four victims with pepper spray, the report stated. Rain City Superhero movement,

Francis, who was being filmed by a journalist at the time, told police he "ran into the crowd to break up the fight."

Seattle Superhero Phoenix Jones Now Fighting Assault Charges
"He saw two white males fighting, but could not explain why four people, including women, had been sprayed," the police report said.

In a video taken by a journalist who was with Jones when he was arrested and posted on Jones' Facebook page shows Jones rushing towards commotion and a crowd in a road beneath an underpass in downtown Seattle. It is unclear from the video whether the group is fighting or just messing around, as police said.

The police report said that Francis "has had a history of injecting himself in these incidents. Recently there has been increased reports of citizens being pepper sprayed by [Francis] and his group."

Earlier that night several other nightclub patrons told police they had also been pepper sprayed by Phoenix Jones, but left the area before police arrived.

Peter Tangen, a photographer and spokesman for Phoenix Jones, questioned how police can say the group was dancing and joking around when Jones was on-scene as an eyewitness and police were not when the situation occurred.

"The first thing Phoenix did was to scream out to call 911," Tangen said. "He's been doing this four or five nights a week this entire year and he has never been charged with a crime. To assert that he ran into a bunch of people dancing and pepper sprayed them is entirely inconsistent with what he has done consistently this entire year."

Jones, the husband and father of two, is a self-proclaimed superhero who roams the streets of Seattle late at night allegedly protecting his fellow citizens.

"I'm definitely not going to let my fellow citizens be assaulted and not do anything," Jones told "Good Morning America" in January.

"It's a pretty simple message. Citizens need to be more accountable. Calling 911 is a great start, but it's not the end all to end all," Jones said. "Criminals feel free to just run wild in my city, and I'm not going to stand for it."

Jones isn't the only one who feels this way. He is just one of many citizen superheroes around the country with similar groups in Orlando, New York and Salt Lake City among other places.

Over the years, the citizen superheroes have grown more organized, with websites popping up to help them organize themselves such as Superheroes Anonymous and Real Life Superheroes. On these websites, participants can do everything from share their crime-fighting stories to learn about patenting their looks and names.

The Salt Lake City group, called the Black Monday Society, is made up of nine members that go out to patrol downtown Salt Lake City a few times a month. They meet up at the Salt Lake City Library and fan out from there, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.

While the group does break up fights, they also deliver meals to the homeless and balance their superhero lives with families and day jobs.

Seattle Superhero Phoenix Jones Unmasked by Seattle Police

A spokesman for the Salt Lake City Police Department said that they have chosen not to comment on the citizen vigilantes, but other police departments, like the Seattle Police Department, are more vocal about their concerns with the groups.

"We applaud their civic-mindedness and that they want to be involved. That's all great. The problem and the concern that we have is that somebody is going to get hurt," Jamieson said. "They don't have the training. They don't have the authority."

Jamieson hopes the incident will be a "wake-up call" for Phoenix Jones and other like him that there is a line between being a helpful citizen and risking further harm. He concedes that Jones' crime fighting efforts are not illegal and he has the right to do so, but hopes they will refrain from inserting themselves unnecessarily into volatile situation.

"At the end of the day, so you break up a fight, then what are you going to do?" Jamieson said. "You still have to call the police if you want somebody arrested."

Jones is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday and has a team of attorneys representing him, according to Tangen who was vague about Jones' future as a superhero.

"He is a man who cares deeply about others, wearing a costume expressly to get out a consistent message: Call 911. Look out for your fellow man. Don't let injustice walk away and don't let people be victimized," Tangen said. "Whatever his future is, it will absolutely contain his way of trying to make the world a better place."

Saudi King allows women to vote, run for office

Saudi King allows women to vote, run for office
Saudi King allows women to vote, run for office, Britain on Sunday praised Saudi Arabia's decision to allow women to vote and run for municipal office, calling it a "significant step forward" for the Saudi people."I welcome the reports of a proposal for women in Saudi Arabia to be given the right to vote and run in future municipal elections," Foreign Secretary William Hague said in a statement.

"This would be a significant step forward for the people of Saudi Arabia," he added. "The UK strongly supports moves to increase the political and economic participation of women across the Arab world.

"We look forward to examining the full details of the proposed changes and how they will work in practice," he concluded.

Saudi King Abdullah announced the move on Sunday in a historic first for the ultra-conservative country where women are subjected to many restrictions.

"Starting with the next term, women will have the right to run in municipal elections and to choose candidates, according to Islamic principles," he said in speech to the Shura Council carried live on state television.

Women's rights groups have fought a long battle to gain the right to vote in the Gulf kingdom, which applies a strict version of Sunni Islam and bans women from driving or travelling without the consent of a male guardian.

Newborn dinosaur found

Newborn dinosaur found, An illustration of the baby dinosaur recently found in Maryland. Click to enlarge this image. LadyofHats.

A hatchling dinosaur representing a new species, Propanoplosaurus marylandicus, was found in Maryland.

The dinosaur is the youngest nodosaur ever found the first hatchling ever recovered in the Eastern United States.

Maryland had a warm, tropical environment during the Early Cretaceous and was home to many dinosaurs.

A five-inch-long baby dinosaur with a short nose, armor and spikes went belly-up and likely drowned in what is now the Washington, D.C. beltway, say scientists, who describe the find as a new species as well as the first hatchling of any dinosaur species ever recovered in the eastern United States.

The tiny dinosaur, Propanoplosaurus marylandicus, is the youngest nodosaur ever found. This group of short-necked, plant-eating dinosaurs reached about 30 feet long when fully grown and had powerful jaws and small teeth.

"Dinosaurs grew up faster than we ever imagined," said Ray Stanford, a Maryland-based dinosaur tracker who was the lead author of a study on the find in the Journal of Paleontology. "We can tell that this little guy was just a hatchling because the bones were elastic and cartilaginous upon death and not ossified."

Stanford found the new 110-million-year-old nodosaur while searching a creek bed in Maryland's Prince George's County after an extensive flood. The area, according to Stanford, was quite a hotbed of dinosaur activity during the Early Cretaceous.

Major predators, such as huge meat-eating Acrocanthosaurus, lived in the region, along with numerous large sauropods, and other plant-eaters like Hypsilophodon and Iguanodon.

"The climate was quite warm and tropical," he said, adding that it was full of lush palm-like trees, such as Cycadophytes members.

The living wasn't always easy for dinosaurs, however, as the little nodosaur proves. Stanford and his team believe the baby dinosaur, which grew to only five inches long, drowned before getting buried by sediment in the stream. They base this on the location and the fact that the dinosaur was preserved on its back. Stanford said dinosaurs that drown exhibit "float and bloat" characteristics shared by this specimen.

Weishampel, a paleontologist and a professor of anatomy at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, led a computer analysis of the baby dinosaur's skull, comparing its bumps, grooves and proportions to 10 other species of ankylosaurs, the group that contains nodosaurs.

They determined the dinosaur was closely related to other nodosaurs, but had distinctive features, such as a particularly short snout, which earned its designation as a new species.
