Helena Bonham-Carter Made Cbe In New Year's Honours List

The British actress Helena Bonham-carter headed the list of show business personalities in this year's New Year's Honours List. The Oscar-nominated actress had her services to drama recognised, after playing the role of the late Queen Mother in The King's Speech, in which she appeared alongside Colin Firth.

Other show business personalities to receive an honour this year (2012) include the comedian Ronnie Corbett and the broadcaster Clive James, who also received a CBE. The TV presenter Lorraine Kelly received an MBE, as did the former TV host Stuart Hall. The actor David Harewood also received an MBE. Helena Bonham-carter, who has two children with her partner, the film director Tim Burton, said that she was dedicating the honour to her father, who suffered with serious illness for 25 years, following a brain tumour. Bonham-Carter regularly appears in her husband's films, such as Alice in Wonderland, Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Planet of the Apes.

Commenting on the award in a Daily Mail article, the actress stated "I am wondering does it mean I get to command, because at the moment it's my four-year-old daughter who does the commanding in our household. Must inform her of the change in situation." Later in 2012, Bonham-Carter is due to appear in Dark Shadows, another of her husband's films, starring JOHNNY DEPP.
