Michael Fassbender Immersed In Shame Script
Michael Fassbender admits he read the script for 'Shame' up to ''350 times'' to get into the character of sex addict Brandon.
Michael Fassbender read the script for 'Shame' "350 times".
The Irish-born actor portrays the role of sex addict Brandon in the Steve McQueen-directed movie, and he admits to get into the head space of someone with so many problems, he had to be fully immersed in the story by reading it constantly.
He said: "A very big part of my preparation is just that I re-read the script. I might read it 300 or 350 times, so I'm spending a lot of time with him and I'm getting to know him. And then, through the day, I'm like, 'Oh, what would Brandon do, in this scenario?'
You're gathering little pieces of information every day and you're putting it together, and you're sitting down with it and thinking, 'Is this logical?'
"If it is logical, you give it a try. And then, Steve was there to steer me in the right direction with that. But, it's just about trying to understand him and relate to him, as opposed to this judgement thing. That would be a mistake."
Michael is forced to spend some of the movie completely naked, and he jokes he was not allowed much time to get into the correct headspace.
He told Collider.com: "Steve was like, 'You're an actor. That's your job! F**king do it!' "
