'My Week with Marilyn' star Michelle Williams is to receive the Desert Palm Achievement Actress Award at the forthcoming Palm Springs International Film Festival.

Michelle Williams is to be honoured at the Palm Springs International Film Festival.

The 'My Week with Marilyn' actress will pick up the Desert Palm Achievement Actress Award at a special gala on January 7 next year, with organisers wanting to recognise her "exceptional" abilities.

Festival chairman Harold Matzner said: ''Every generation, the cinema has a few performers who mesmerize audiences with an exceptional blend of talent, versatility and grace.

"Williams epitomises these qualities as she continues to accept challenging role after challenging role. In her latest work, 'My Week with Marilyn', she perfectly captures the glamour and vulnerability of the iconic Marilyn Monroe who finds respite and solace during a week-long hiatus from Hollywood pressures.''

It has previously been announced that George Clooney and Glenn Close will also pick up awards at the forthcoming festival.

George will follow in the footsteps of stars including Ben Affleck and Dustin Hoffman to take the Chairman's Award in recognition of his performance in 'The Descendants' and for writing, starring in, directing and producing 'Ides of March'.

Meanwhile, five-time Oscar nominee Glenn will take home the Career Achievement Award, which has previously been given to Cate Blanchett, Dame Helen Mirren, Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman.

In picking up the Desert Palm Achievement Actress Award, Michelle follows in the footsteps of actresses including Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway, Halle Berry, Charlize Theron, Kate winslet, Naomi Watts and Marion Cotillard.
