Held at Grauman's Chinese Theatre, cast members James Franco and Tom Felton greeted fans and media lining the red carpet while leading lady Freida Pinto brought her beauty to the festivities clad in an eye-catching green frock.
Also on hand for the west coast film debut were actors Andy Serkis, Jamie Harris, David Oyelowo and Loretta Devine, as well as director Rupert Wyatt and producer Peter Chernin.
Of the filming process, Mr Franco recently dished about what it was like working alongside Mr Serkis, as he said, "On set, Andy would be dressed in an outfit that looked like gray pajamas, with a ton of wires around him and a small camera at the end of a wire armature pointed at his face to capture his expressions. He looked nothing like a chimpanzee, but he was so good at capturing the behavior of a chimpanzee that I guess my actor’s imagination took over. It was like acting with a chimpanzee who has amazing acting instincts."
"Rise of the Planet of the Apes" is set "in present day San Francisco, where man's own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy."
The film will be swinging into theaters worldwide beginning August 5th.
